About me

Hi! I am Michelle and I make stickers.

I started making these drawings (now stickers) as a way to represent my own Indigenous heritage in a diverse way.

I'm based in Los Angeles but my family is from a small pueblo in the central valley of Oaxaca, Mexico. A lot of my work is influenced by the many colors and traditions of my community.

When I'm not making stickers I'm a PhD candidate in American Studies were I write and research about the experiences of Indigenous peoples that move into urban landscapes. Unfortunately, a lot of the archives I come across portray Indigenous histories as always marked by violence and loss. But that is not all that we are and all that we can be.

I started making these stickers as a way to produce an alternative vision of Oaxacan Indigeneity outside of these tragic histories. I want to represent a world where Indigenous people like me can be geeky and silly. Where we can live outside stereotypes and be Pokémon trainers or free alebrije spirits.
